Set within our 10-million-year old Malaysian rainforest, The Datai Langkawi marks a meaningful milestone in April 2026 – five years of The Datai Pledge, our living commitment to nature, community and conservation.
From 13–19 April 2026, we celebrate with the inaugural Datai Pledge Festival, a week-long gathering inspired by the theme of Human/Nature. More than a concept, it reflects the deep relationship between people and the natural world – a connection that has guided The Datai Pledge since its official launch in 2020.
This anniversary is not simply a celebration, but an invitation. Guests, partners, artisans, conservationists and performers come together in a vibrant showcase of nature, culture, craft, cuisine and environmental action. Through immersive experiences across land and sea, the festival brings to life the four pillars that shape our work – Pure for the Future, Wildlife for the Future, Fish for the Future, and Youth for the Future.
Join us as we honour five years of impact, share stories of progress, and raise funds to support the next chapter of meaningful change.

Throughout the week, creativity meets purpose in a series of hands-on sustainability workshops led by our inspiring partners and local changemakers. Discover the art of fabric upcycling with SURI Lifestyle, empowering single mothers and youth through sewing skills and circular design. Explore purposeful creativity with The Kanshalife Project, blending art, entrepreneurship and holistic learning to transform waste into opportunity. Meet local beekeeper Pak Long and learn about the remarkable world of stingless kelulut bees and their vital role in our ecosystem. Witness discarded glass reimagined as art by Beatrice Hew. Experience the timeless beauty of natural indigo dyeing and Shibori techniques with textile artist Yann Indigo. Each workshop offers more than knowledge – it’s an opportunity to connect more deeply with community, creativity and conscious living.
Step deeper into Langkawi’s wild heart through a thoughtfully curated series of talks, storytelling sessions and guided experiences led by passionate experts and advocates. Engage with MareCet, Malaysia’s only NGO dedicated to marine mammal research and conservation. Join Langkawi naturalist and The Datai Pledge Conservation Consultant Irshad Mobarak for evocative rainforest storytelling and the restorative ritual of Mandi Embun – bathing in the morning dew beneath the forest canopy. Award-winning photographer SC Shekar presents a reflective nature-inspired poetry reading, while wildlife photographer Peter Ong shares stories from his acclaimed book PRIMUS. As night falls, look skyward with astronomy expert Nurul Fatini through an engaging astronomy talk, curated exhibit and guided stargazing session (weather permitting). From rainforest floor to open sky, these experiences deepen our understanding of the world we are part of.
As evening settles over the rainforest, Malaysia’s rich artistic heritage comes alive. Traditional ‘Caklempong’ rhythms and resonant gamelan melodies set the tone during the welcome cocktail and Langkawi-themed night. Taste of the Rainforest is accompanied by ‘Meruked’ – a six-piece ensemble from Sarawak, blending rhythmic chants, bamboo percussion and melodic breathwork in harmony with nature’s soundscape. A Mystical Night by the Beach brings island legends to life through storytelling, ‘Wayang Kulit’ (shadow puppetry), acoustic music and poetry under the stars. The festival concludes with a soulful finale by Alena Murang, acclaimed singer-songwriter and ‘sape’ player, whose music weaves together tradition, rock and folk, drawing inspiration from her Bornean heritage. These performances are not only entertainment – they are living heritage, shared and celebrated.
The celebration finds expression at the table, where every dish tells a story of place and connection. The week begins with a welcome cocktail at The Lobby Lounge, followed by Langkawi Night, an island-themed evening at The Gulai House, where heritage flavours and live gamelan honour the island’s spirit. At The Dining Room, Taste of the Rainforest presents a refined farm-to-table showcase of local and organic ingredients, celebrating the richness of our land and sea. A Mystical Night by the Beach brings together a coastal seafood feast and evocative storytelling beneath the stars – a tribute to Langkawi’s maritime traditions and enduring sense of wonder. On 18 April, the festival culminates in a Gala Evening centred on reciprocity and gratitude. The night features a fundraising auction and a curated six-hands dinner, marking a meaningful moment of collective celebration and shared commitment to the future.
This week-long gathering honours five years of collective progress while reaffirming our enduring commitment to conservation and community. Through immersive workshops, cultural expressions, meaningful encounters with nature and shared moments around the table, we invite you to reflect on our shared relationship with the natural world – and the responsibility we all share in protecting it for today, and for generations to come.
Together, we celebrate not only how far we have come, but the future we are building.
