Health and Safety Measures Undertaken Due to COVID-19

In view of the COVID-19 worldwide outbreak and in full adherence to the World Health Organisation’s recommendations, as well as Malaysia’s rules and regulations, we would like to share some of the precautionary and required measures to be undertaken at the resort when it reopens. Please note that these measures are not exhaustive and could change as and when new rules and regulations are decreed.


– Temperature checks for all guests on arrival
– Social distancing of at least 1.5 metres to be adhered to at all times
– Face masks required for all interaction, including activities and walks (except stipulated otherwise)
– Should there be any suspicion of infection, the guest will be quarantined in their room and attended to by our nurse until the cause is ruled out.
– In-house nurse available 24 hours a day


– Very strict room cleaning protocol observed
– Every guest room sanitised upon check-out with a 24-hour gap in-between
– Hand sanitisers placed in all guest rooms
– Face masks replenished daily in all guest rooms


– Sanitation of all kitchen surfaces multiple times a day
– Hand sanitiser available at all restaurants
– Temperature checks taken upon entry to all restaurants
– Breakfast served only at The Beach Club with an a la carte menu only (no buffet)
– Restaurants which will be open: The Beach Club (all day), The Gulai House (dinner only)


– Maximum group size of six guests for Beach Walk, Rainforest Awakening and Rainforest After Dark nature walks
– Maximum group size of four guests for Permaculture and Butterfly Walks
– All holistic activities (eg. yoga, pilates) will be on a private basis (no group sessions) and charged accordingly
– Other activities will also have safety measures in place to minimise the number of guests

Internally The Datai has also taken stringent precautionary measures to overcome the virus such as:

– Every employee’s temperature will be checked when they report for duty
– Any employee displaying even mild symptoms is immediately quarantined and tested
– All employees will wear masks and other protective gear at all times
– Every staff transport vehicle is sanitised after each trip
– Social distancing is adhered to at all times and monitored constantly
– Stringent training on Covid-19 measures and practices undertaken by all employees

Since 18 Mar 2020, Malaysia has been under the Conditional Movement Control Order which has since been extended until 9 June 2020. Initiated to curb the spread of COVID-19, specific businesses and gatherings in the country will be suspended until further notice.
